Project

Boosting Europe’s sustainable energy access and generation efficiency is a priority for the European Green Deal and EU Agenda.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates that, by 2030, the renewable energy generation in Europe will increase by 29%. This progress towards sustainability translates into significant investments in inter-country marketing and energy storage capacity for daily and seasonal operations.

While short-term energy storage using batteries or compressed hydrogen is a cost-effective strategy for daily operations, seasonal fluctuations must be served using long-term storage solutions in chemicals such as ammonia.

FASTER is a consortium of 5 companies and 3 research universities conveying complementarity and synergistic cooperation between the EU and Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

  • Deliver an affordable and clean alternative for hydrogen storage and transport using ammonia as vector in the EU context.
  • Demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility and reliability of a non-noble catalyst based on metal nitrides/ hydrides/amides active at low temperature (< 250 °C) and pressure (<50 bar).
  • Elaborate a roadmap for commercialisation of the FASTER technologies
  • Foster transborder research exchange and cooperation
  • Develop recommendations, policies and regulatory analyses on ammonia economy in the EU context

FASTER gathers a selected group of private and public organizations as Advisory Board Members to ensure fast-tracking of technology take-up:
